Achilleas Theofilou, a prominent Greek music producer and former husband of celebrated singer Haris Alexiou, has passed away.
Theofilou, known for his collaborations with some of Greece’s most iconic artists, leaves behind a rich legacy in the music industry.
Born and raised in Mytilene, Theofilou made significant contributions to Greek music, particularly during the 1970s when he worked closely with legendary artists such as George Dalaras, Yiannis Parios, Antonis Vardis, Stratos Dionysiou, Rita Sakellariou, Vassilis Papakonstantinou, Manos Loizos, and Vassilis Tsitsanis, among others. His work as a producer spanned 36 years (1970–2006) at Minos EMI, where he played a pivotal role in shaping the sound of modern Greek music.
Theofilou’s professional journey included long-term collaborations with artists like George Dalaras, producing numerous albums in the 1970s, and later with Antonis Vardis and Yiannis Parios, cementing his reputation as a cornerstone of the Greek music scene.
Beyond his professional achievements, Theofilou maintained a warm and respectful relationship with Haris Alexiou, his first wife and the mother of their son, Manos. Even after their divorce, the two remained close. In a touching Instagram post, Alexiou shared a photo of Theofilou with his partner, Maria, writing, “Achilleas and his Maraki. My siblings forever,” reflecting the enduring bond they shared.
Theofilou’s passing marks the end of an era for Greek music, but his contributions will continue to resonate with fans and artists alike.
