Greek singer Rena Morfi is raring to perform in Australia for the first time ever, eager to entertain as she prepares to feature in both the Antipodes Festival and the Greek Festival of Sydney.
Morfi is set to serve as a headline act in both Melbourne and Sydney, performing on Saturday 22 February at the Antipodes Festival before capping off Sydney’s celebration at Darling Harbour the following evening.
The singer stressed her great pleasure in headlining both events in her debut performances in Australia.
“I’m incredibly excited to connect with the Greek community in Australia and feel the warmth of people who carry Greece in their hearts, even from so far away,” Morfi told Neos Kosmos.
She remarked that music is a powerful tool in bringing people together and that she hopes to achieve exactly that.
“I can’t wait to share my songs and energy with everyone and experience the incredible atmosphere I’ve heard so much about.”
The vocalist highlighted that she has heard great things about Australia (its landscapes, its cities etc), though she is most keen to see firsthand the Hellenism that is present
“I know that Greek traditions, music, and culture are very much alive in Australia, and I’m curious to see how that has evolved so far from our homeland,” she said.
Morfi stated she considers it “an incredible honour” to have been asked to perform in Australia.
“To know that my music has reached people on the other side of the world and that they want to experience it live is deeply moving,” she said.
“It reminds me of the power of music to unite us, no matter where we are. I feel grateful and excited to bring a piece of Greece to Australia through my performance.”
The singer expressed that people should expect a show that mixes emotion with energy and celebration.
“My music blends traditional Greek sounds with contemporary influences, creating a unique experience that touches the heart but also makes you want to dance,” Morfi said.
“There will be moments of nostalgia, passion, and pure joy—I want people to leave feeling uplifted and connected to their roots.”
She praised both the Greek Orthodox Community of NSW and the Greek Community of Melbourne for playing vital roles in keeping Hellenic culture alive and stated her joy in being asked to participate in celebrations like these.
“It is a beautiful opportunity to share my music with people who hold Greece close to their hearts and to celebrate our shared heritage together.”
The singer concluded by thanking the Greek diaspora of Australia for keeping its culture, language and traditions alive.
“Your love for Greece is inspiring, and I can’t wait to celebrate it with you through music,” she said.
