A long-lasting and intense heat wave is expected to sweep across much of Greece beginning Tuesday.

Forecaster Thodoris Kolydas noted that while warmer air will begin moving in on Sunday and Monday, the full impact of the heat wave will be felt from Tuesday onward.

Temperatures are forecast to soar above 41 to 42 degrees Celsius in inland areas, with the peak expected on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The extreme temperatures are expected to persist through at least Friday, with some regions possibly seeing even higher readings due to local conditions.

While the heat is expected to subside in much of the country by Sunday, July 27, it may continue to linger in some regions.

Authorities are urging the public to take precautions, avoid unnecessary outdoor activities during peak heat hours and stay hydrated as Greece braces for one of the hottest weeks of the summer.
