A beautiful Greek island has been named one of the best destinations to visit this year. Naxos is a Greek island, being the largest in the Cyclades island group.
It is a popular tourist destination, with several places of interest, including beaches, villages and old ruins. The main villages are Filoti, Apiranthos, Vivlos, Agios Arsenios, Koronos and Glynado. The main town on the island is Chora, and it has historical sites like the Temple of Apollo and the Venetian Castle. And for those looking to explore more than just the main attractions, smaller villages offer a more traditional Greek experience, with local shops, cafes, and tavernas lining the streets. Using trends from the World Travel Market, travel blogger Marta Ostoya named Naxos one of the top destinations for 2026.
The island topped her list, praising its “golden beaches, clear turquoise waters, and a slower pace that supports rest”. Marta also said it is a welcoming option for families, with calm waters and a community atmosphere.
Beaches on the island include Agia Anna, Agios Prokopios, Aliko, Kastraki, Mikri Vigla, Plaka, and Agios Georgios, most of them on the western side of the island, near Chora.
Like other cycladic islands, Naxos is considered a great spot for windsurfing and kitesurfing. There are seven sports clubs on the island that offer both of these sports and other water activities.
Vangelis Katsaras, Deputy Mayor for Tourism of the Municipality of Naxos and Small Cyclades, said that Naxos showcases an authentic side of Greece through traditional villages, genuine hospitality, local customs, distinctive outdoor activities, and regional products.
Naxos has a Mediterranean climate, reaching up to 15C in February. The daily minimum through the winter is 10C. In the summer, it can get up to 27C.
There are no direct flights to Naxos, but there are regular ferries from Athens. There are also ferries from Piraeus, Rafina, and Lavrio. Naxos is also connected with many Cyclades islands, like Santorini, Paros, Mykonos, Amorgos, and Tinos.
