PM Mitsotakis Receives Archbishop of Athens and All Greece Ieronymos

ATHENS – On Monday, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis welcomed the Archbishop of Athens and All Greece Ieronymos to the Maximos Mansion.

Before the cameras, Mitsotakis reflected on the recent passing of the Archbishop of Albania, who died on Saturday. “These are difficult times for Orthodoxy as a whole. The loss of the Archbishop of Albania touched us all. I had the privilege of knowing him personally. He was a great hierarch and an even greater man, who did extraordinary work in Albania, rebuilding a Church that had been destroyed. Above all, he was a man of God who cared deeply for the people. We will honor him at his funeral in Tirana as he deserves,” the Prime Minister said.

The Archbishop responded, “He was one of a select few. I knew him since high school. May God grant him rest. Thank you for sharing in both our mourning and this painful loss. But these things are human… Today, we are here to greet you, meet you in person, and discuss our shared matters—your matters, the matters of our time.”

According to government sources, the two leaders also discussed current issues concerning Church-State relations, particularly social matters, and the growing mutual support between the two institutions.
