Kathleen Marshall is directing and choreographing the U.S. premiere at Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park.
Performances are underway for the new pop-rock musical comedy Mythic, which will officially open at Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park September 25. Get a first look at the new musical in the video above and the photo gallery below.
Directed and choreographed by Tony winner Kathleen Marshall, the U.S. premiere is led by Savy Jackson (Bad Cinderella) as Aphrodite, Michael Park (Redwood) as Zeus, Mamie Parris (Cats) as Demeter, Analise Scarpaci (Mrs. Doubtfire) as Persephone, and Julius Thomas III (Gershwins‘ Porgy and Bess) as Hades.
The ensemble includes Matthew Samuel Blum, Aaron Gabriel Graham,
Alexa Magro, Stephanie Lynne Mason, Owen Scales, Cassidy Stoner, Kodiak
Thompson, and Emily Grace Tucker. The swings are Josh Devine and Madison
Osment.
Mythic, which features a book and lyrics by Marcus Stevens
and music and orchestrations by Oran Eldor, turns the ancient Greek myth
of Persephone on its ear with the gods reimagined as chart-topping pop
stars, power-hungry politicians, and attention-seeking influencers.
In the new musical Persephone rebels against her mother Demeter’s
expectations and decides to forge her own path. When she sneaks into a
party at the Acropolis and meets brooding bad-boy Hades, her life takes
an unexpected turn into the Underworld.
The production also has set design by David Korins,
costume design by Linda Cho, lighting design by Kenneth Posner, music
supervision by Chris Fenwick, music direction by Bryson Baumgartel, music
producing by Doug Besterman, sound design by John Shivers, associate
direction and choreography by David Eggers, casting by Stephanie
Klapper, and laser effects design by Adam Biscow.
Brandon T. Holmes is the stage manager, with assistant stage management by Rachel Kaplow, Andrea L. Shell, and Madison Stone.
Mythic is produced by special arrangement with SHO Productions/Shoshana Kovac Parets. Performances continue through October 19.
