The Region of Peloponnese is advancing a series of strategic projects focused on showcasing its cultural wealth and modernizing its road network, as part of broader efforts to raise its global profile.

During a recent meeting, regional officials highlighted that these initiatives are designed to enhance the region’s overall image – particularly following a strong wave of both Greek and international visitors during the Easter holiday period.

Deputy Governor Christos Lambropoulos noted that tourist traffic is expected to remain high in the months ahead, and that the infrastructure upgrades will support the region’s continued momentum.

Among the highlighted initiatives is the continuation of archaeological excavations at Ancient Thouria in Messinia, made possible through a renewed agreement with the Greek Culture Ministry.

“The agreement with the ministry reinforces this significant archaeological initiative in a region renowned for its exceptionally rich cultural and archaeological heritage,” said Lambropoulos.

The regional authority has also appointed a temporary contractor for a major road safety project, backed by 45 million euros in funding from Greece’s Resilience and Recovery Fund. According to Lambropoulos, the initiative will involve safety interventions at more than 500 locations across the road network.

Additionally, over the past two months, supplementary road improvement works totaling more than 4.5 million euros have been carried out across all regional units.

“Our efforts continue, with the support of our services, to ensure a safe and functional road network—one that serves citizens and enhances the overall appeal of the Peloponnese,” Lambropoulos concluded.
