On yer bike! With the festive party season upon us, shared wardrobe site By Rotation and London’s shared e-bike company Lime have joined forces. The idea is to help Londoners show up more sustainably at events for the festive season.

It follows their joint research that reveals that 95% of women living in London “are looking for ways to be more environmentally conscious this Christmas”, while 56% “plan to spend less this year than last”.
And the other bit of research that falls neatly into the Lime/By Rotation collab? Some 44% don’t plan on buying new outfits this year, 23% plan on choosing more sustainable travel options and 37% of 18-34 year-olds say they’ll cycle to a Christmas party this year.
Meanwhile, 35% of London women admit to buying new clothes for parties or events they only wear once while 34% admit they feel pressure to buy a new outfit for every Christmas party they attend, even though 43% can’t remember what they wore to parties last year.
Social media only intensifies the cycle for young people. Over a third of 18-34-year-olds (37%) confess they wouldn’t post on social if they were wearing something they’d already been pictured in.
This is where By Rotation comes in, it says.
And it’s not just wardrobes getting a rethink with Londoners looking to make greener choices this Christmas. One in four young Londoners say cycling feels more fashionable than other modes of transport, while 21% said they didn’t want to sit on dirty seats on public transport, and 19% worry about overheating in their party outfits.
Separately, a third (34%) of 18-34 year old Londoners said they agree it’s “cooler” to arrive at a Christmas party by bike or e-bike than any other way.
And to make the journey by bike easier, anyone who rents a Christmas party look on the By Rotation app can access a free Lime ride through a dedicated code.
