Café owners will be holding events to share Greek and Cypriot culture, traditions, music and food to connect people within the community.
Sisters Vasiliki and Aimiliana Nastou opened Thea Coffee House in Long Sutton two months ago and have organised a Greek Cypriot night on Saturday (November 30).
They plan to serve traditional Greek and Cypriot food such as pastitsio and moussaka along with offering the chance to learn and play the national board game called Tavli, which is similar to Backgammon.
Vasiliki said: “A Greek Orthodox priest came into the shop and we discussed the idea of bringing Greek and Cypriot families together who live in the town.
“It will help connect them together and make more friends.
“There is a small community of Greek families already and hopefully in the future more people will come.”
Although the evening, which runs from 7pm-10pm, is sold out this time, but Vasiliki is keen to share further occasions with anyone who would like to book.
She said: “We want to create a group to celebrate our culture and share it with locals and for English people to come and visit us.
“We have 12 families coming along already.
“If we get more people we want to have a Greek teacher to learn to read and write Greek.”
Some traditional dishes that are not usually on the main menu will be served such as moussaka.
The sisters are keen to introduce aspects of their culture and have been welcomed into the town since their opening in September.
Vasiliki said: “It was a good decision coming to Long Sutton.
“It is a small town and the people are warm and welcoming.
“The business is going very nicely – we are very busy so we are happy.”
She would like to hear from the community about what sort of monthly events they would also like to see at the café.
