Opa! Rock Island’s Big Fat Greek Festival returns this weekend

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (KWQC) -Come hungry, come curious, and come ready to shout “Opa!” with your neighbors.

The Big Fat Greek Festival–the Quad Cities’ favorite celebration of Greek culture is back and bigger than ever.

Saint George Greek Orthodox Church invites the community to its 20th annual Big Fat Greek Festival, held on church grounds at 2930 31st Avenue on Friday, Sept. 5 from 4 to 11 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 6 from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

With admission just $2 for adults and free for children 12 and under, the festival offers an irresistible weekend of authentic Greek cuisine, live music, traditional dancing, and joyful hospitality.

This year’s upgrades include a brand-new patio, extended hours at the outdoor kitchen Zorbas, and a fully stocked drive-thru for guests on the go.

The menu is a feast in itself, featuring:

  • Greek Sampler Platters with pastitsio, spanakopita, keftedes, gyro meat, and more
  • Souvlaki skewers, Greek fries, dolmades, and fresh salads
  • Pastries like baklava, galaktoboureko, loukoumades, and baklava sundaes
  • Greek beer, wine, and ouzo at the Taverna on the patio
