The response from Real was thunderous and immediate—well, 14 minutes quick. Mbappé equalised in the 22nd minute, a calm finish into the bottom corner after a swift break , before heading in the second goal just two minutes later from a cross by Arda Guler.

The Greek side refused to give up still; scoring deep into injury time, a scramble in the box found Ayoub El Kaabi at the back post, who bundled home to make it 4–3 and set up a frantic finale. However, Real Madrid survived the late scare and sealed the win.
