Plans are under way to connect three popular ski resorts in northern Greece – Kaimaktsalan, Tria Pente Pigadia and Seli – through a revamped road network, in an initiative aimed at boosting the area’s popularity with visitors.
Starting with efforts to enhance accessibility and reduce the travel time between the three resorts, officials from the two regions and three municipalities involved in the scheme recently held a meeting to discuss the broad strokes of the project, with further talks expected to follow, state broadcaster ERT reported on Thursday.
The initiative is geared towards creating a unified tourism experience for skiing enthusiasts while also boosting the economy in the wider area. By integrating these resorts, the region aims to attract more visitors, offering better access to more slopes and facilities.
Mountain tourism, which combines short trips with activities such as hiking, sightseeing and leisurely walks, has been growing in popularity globally, becoming an alternative to island destinations. Greece’s mountain regions are no exception.
The proposed connection of the ski resorts aligns with wider efforts to promote sustainable and diversified tourism.
