Thousands of people flocked the old city centre of Nicosia on Sunday evening to enjoy a concert by Greek pop singer Anastasia and watch as the Christmas tree was lit up.
Parades began in the commercial areas of Nicosia led by Father Christmas, majorettes, mascots and scout bands, meeting in Eleftheria’s square, where choirs were singing Christmas carols.
Nicosia municipality said the event was followed by a countdown to the lighting of the Christmas tree and live music culminating in Anastasia’s concert.
