A fresh taste of the Mediterranean arrives at 2501 Central Ave. as Mythos Greek Bistro takes over the former Salty Nun location. The new spot brings authentic flavors to the Grand Central District.
Konstantinos “Dinos” Chilias and Daniel Morina will transform the 3,000-square-foot space. “St. Pete is missing an authentic Greek restaurant,” Chilias said, according to St. Pete Rising. “I’ve waited many years for the right opportunity for me, and this is it, right on Central Avenue.”
Inside, gold-flecked epoxy will replace the artificial grass flooring. White walls and blue shutters will set a Mediterranean mood, while artists add hand-painted scenes to the outdoor eating areas.
At the helm stands Chilias, who brings two decades of culinary skill. His current venture, La Creperia Cafe, thrives in Ybor City. St. Petersburg locals might know him from his past work at Crepeway Caffe in the EDGE District.
Fresh ingredients shipped straight from Greece will fill the kitchen. Diners can start with zesty feta, crispy rings of calamari, or tender grape leaves. The main menu stars juicy lamb chops and flaky salmon. Sweet endings include fresh-baked baklava and warm spanakopita.
Night owls can grab Greek street snacks like sizzling gyros and spiced bifteki. The bar pours wines and beers from Greek vineyards and breweries. Some nights will buzz with hookah smoke and the sounds of live Greek music.
The new spot joins other Mediterranean kitchens in the area. Baba On Central and Barbouni serve nearby, while Ruya, a coffee shop and wine spot with Mediterranean flair, just started pouring drinks on 1st Avenue South.
Doors open 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, stretching until 2 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Plans for daytime service may come later.
