Castle Road’s growing food scene has welcomed a new addition with the official opening of Cosy Greek Coffee Shop, Deli & Desserts on Saturday, 19 October. The Mayor of Bedford cut the ribbon to mark the launch, which drew a strong turnout despite the wet weather.

Guests were treated to traditional Greek dishes, desserts, and live music, creating a lively atmosphere and the aroma of freshly baked pastries.

Owned by local entrepreneur Sandy Christou, the café is inspired by her upbringing on the island of Crete and her family’s long history in the restaurant business.

“I was inspired to open Cozy by my love for Greek food and my passion for sharing it with the local community,” said Sandy.

“After years of living and working in Crete, I wanted to bring a piece of that culture here to Bedford, a relaxed, friendly place where people can come together over good food and great coffee.”

The opening also featured a live performance from Mamma Mia the Musical’s a capella trio, adding to the celebratory mood.

Cozy is open seven days a week, from 6.30am to 9pm, offering both takeaway and limited seating. The menu includes a wide selection of Greek pastries, freshly cooked meals, and desserts, alongside drinks such as the popular Freddo Cappuccino.

All ingredients are imported directly from Greece, and the café serves a different traditional dish each day, giving customers something new to try with every visit.

“Opening our doors for the first time filled me with pride and excitement for what’s ahead,” said Sandy.

“The renovation took a lot of hard work, but seeing it all come together and welcoming our first customers made it worthwhile. I couldn’t have done it without the support of my friends and family.”

Sandy says she hopes the café will be “the go-to place for people to catch up with friends, whether it’s your morning coffee run or a treat after work.”
