A new book reading session, launched in Beijing on January 12, 2025, aims to offer deeper insights into Greek civilization through the lens of archaeology.
The event, supported by the Embassy of Greece, featured the book How to Fit All of Ancient Greece in an Elevator by renowned archaeologist Theodore Papakostas.
Evgenios Kalpyris, the Greek Ambassador to China who wrote the book’s preface, was present at the event. Ioanna Kakalidi, Head of the Public Diplomacy Office of the Greek Embassy in China, spoke about the book’s importance for Chinese audiences, stating, “For Chinese readers, this book provides a unique opportunity to better understand Greek civilization, which is a sister civilization to the ancient Chinese civilization in the West.”
The session included a panel discussion with Luo Tong, a translator and researcher of ancient Greek literature and theatre, and Qian Yingchao, a lecturer and Head of the Greek Department at the Beijing Foreign Studies University. The panellists engaged in an insightful dialogue with the readers, fostering a deeper appreciation of the interconnectedness of ancient civilizations and the enduring legacy of Greek culture.
The event at the bookstore served as a valuable platform for cultural exchange, bringing Greek archaeology and philosophy closer to Chinese readers.
