Music of the Ionian Islands

The concert Music of the Ionian Islands («Επτανησιακές Άριες, Άσματα & Καντσονέτες») will take place on Saturday, 20 September 2025, at 21:00, at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus in Athens. This special evening is dedicated to the musical tradition of the Ionian Islands, highlighting the distinctive blend of operatic arias, lyrical songs, and cantzonettas that flourished in the region. The event will showcase the elegance and emotional depth of Eptanese music, which uniquely combines Italianate influences with Greek cultural identity. At the heart of the performance is the distinguished Philharmonic Society of Corfu, one of Greece’s oldest and most celebrated ensembles, whose presence brings authenticity and prestige to this tribute.

Through this performance, audiences will experience the rich artistic heritage of the Ionian world, where classical refinement meets folk-inspired melodies. The program aims to revive and celebrate a repertoire that bridges high art and popular song, offering both cultural insight and artistic enjoyment. Tickets are available starting at €18 and part of the proceeds will be donated to the Charitable Work of the Thyateira Association of Great Britain.
