“Moto & Rock” in Korça/ The festival that brings motorcycles, music and a free spirit

"Moto & Rock" in Korça/ The festival that brings

Korça has once again hosted one of the most special events of the season, the “Moto & Rock” festival, which this year marked its 7th edition, bringing back to the city the energy, noise and adrenaline that only the love of motorcycles can bring.

This Saturday, hundreds of motorcyclists from across the country, as well as from North Macedonia, Greece, and Kosovo, arrived in the city to participate in this major event.

Korça turned into an open stage, where every street and boulevard was filled with the sounds of motorbikes and the applause of citizens. The most exciting part of the day was the biker parade, which lasted for minutes on the main streets of the city, with different formations and motorbikes of the most special types.

The square in front of the Cathedral became the center of the celebration, where live music, a friendly atmosphere, and the city’s many offerings completed an evening full of rhythm and excitement.

This is the 7th edition of this festival with a participation of around 500-600 bikers. Most of them are groups from Albania, there are also from Macedonia, Greece and Kosovo. Today there is a parade with all the bikers and invited groups and then here we have a live concert with famous Albanian singers and also beer and what the city offers ,” said a participant.

For many of the participants, this is not just a seasonal event but a way of life, a passion that was born years ago and has never faded.

We came to give a boost to the nation and Korça. It is an extraordinary event. We contribute to tourism, we are also here near the church. This passion started before the liberation, around 1990. We were in antagonism with the then system and this is a kind of confrontation with the then system ,” said a participant.

Passion connects us. I come here regularly, every year, with great pleasure. This time I came with a 1500cc Intruder with friends. Since my youth I had a short period, but when my children grew up, they started with motorcycles and I said to them, “Wait, dad will show you how to do it right” “, said another participant.

At this festival, there was no shortage of personal emotions, stories about the first motorcycles, about long journeys, about early memories, and about motorcycles that are fanatically preserved as part of personal history.

We wanted to have a motorcycle since we were little, but we didn’t have the opportunity to have one. Back then, we had Enver Hoxha and Ramiz Alina, but we didn’t have motorcycles. As soon as I went to Greece, the first year I got a motorcycle. It was a 1978 Suzuki 400cc, that’s what I started with. My love for motorcycles is great. I have five motorcycles, 1 in the shop, 1 in the salon that I lifted with a crane, and 3 in the garage. Without a motorcycle, there is no life. Even the life of a motorcycle is to go out on the road, pour gas and go. A motorcycle is like a woman, if you don’t take care of it, she will leave you. He who hasn’t ridden a motorcycle hasn’t lived. A motorcycle gives you life, vitality, everything. It gives you freedom and adrenaline ,” said one participant.

For some participants from Greece it was their first time at this festival, but emotions were strong from the moment they arrived. While for others, this is an old tradition.

We come from a small village near Thessaloniki. We arrived an hour ago, it’s my first time here. I came with my dad on a motorbike. Motorbikes are my dad’s passion, I haven’t got a motorbike yet ,” said a participant from Greece.

I have been riding a motorcycle for 38 years and currently have a 2024 Bm Sport motorcycle. I started this passion when I was 30 years old with my friends, and over time I also created the biker group in Greece. This is my fifth time coming to Korça, I like the organization, the city’s Cathedral and the people here, ” said another festival participant, who came from Greece.

“Moto & Rock” is more than a festival. It is an event that promotes tourism, brings cultures closer, connects passions and transforms the city into a meeting point for free spirits.

With a perfect mix of rock music, motorbikes and a festive atmosphere, this activity is becoming an important brand for Korça and the entire region. A weekend that is not easily forgotten, with motorbikes, music and inspiring stories./ CNA
