Back in June 2023, we let you know that Marathon Deli signed on to open a new location at the upcoming Crossroads at Kensington shopping center on the corner of Connecticut Avenue and Plyers Mill Rd. The restaurant has received its permit to begin interior construction and could be ready to open later this year.
Marathon Deli, a long-standing institution in College Park, Maryland, has been serving up authentic Greek cuisine and other deli favorites for decades. What started in 1972 as a beloved local spot has evolved under the culinary expertise of owner and Chef George Soldatos, who hails from the Ionian island of Lefkada, Greece. Marathon Deli is a true family affair, with Soldatos, his wife Maria, and their son Peter continuing a tradition of quality and hospitality.
Beyond their famous gyros, Marathon Deli offers a diverse menu that caters to a wide range of tastes. While Greek specialties like souvlaki, spanakopita, and baklava are staples, they also feature an extensive selection of subs, pizzas, and their well-loved fries, often served with their signature “Marathon sauce.”
