When jetting off on holiday, unwinding with a refreshing drink is often a top priority.

And, for many, basking in the warm sunshine is even more enjoyable with a cold beverage in hand. One tourist was taken aback when he stopped by a Burger King in Spain and discovered the fast-food chain serves beer.

Not only was he surprised by the availability of booze, but also by the price tag. Harry, who shares his adventures on TikTok as harrytokky, asked his followers for their thoughts on the unexpected offering in a recent post.

Before visiting the Burger King, Harry confessed he was unaware that the chain sold beer in Spain. As a fan of Benidorm, he decided to give it a try to see what all the fuss was about.

Upon arrival, he found out that a beer costs €3.06 (£2.62) and is served in a paper cup, albeit a generously sized one.

Harry shared his thoughts, saying: “It’s true, you can get a beer from Burger King. Would I pay €3.06? I don’t know. Would you pay €3 for a beer from Burger King?”

The video sparked a lively discussion, with numerous viewers offering their opinions. One commenter revealed: “Going to blow your mind here. So do McDonald’s and have done for about 20 years.”

Another user quipped: “You don’t know if you’d spend €3 on a beer after spending €3 on a beer.” A third person chimed in with: “Burger King or McDonald’s beer?”

The topic of purchasing beer in Spain has sparked discussions on Quora, with one user offering one detailed explanation for its availability at McDonald’s.

They commented: “Two reasons, both cultural. One: I have never seen anyone drunk in a McDonald’s. Not even McHappy. The Spanish can, and do, drink one beer purely as a beverage.

“Beer in Spain is not necessarily a vehicle to get alcohol into your body. The alcohol is merely a part of the drink… which is why non-alcoholic beer is a huge market here (and nobody drinks seven of those either).

“Drinking is very cheap in Spain. Although your liver can’t afford what your wallet so readily can, you can get a can of generic beer cheaper than a can of Coca Cola (I have seen 25 cent beer). But being drunk in public is not really socially accepted, so nobody does it. I suspect this also has something to do with the lower violent crime rates in Spain.

“Two: Beer and fast food are seen as ‘American’ and a good mix. Even though you would not imagine beer in McDonald’s in the States… Spanish people would. So there is a demand for ‘a’ (just one) beer with the meal. No cocktail bar.

“While I am sure that tourists have come and gotten McWasted, it is so rare that accommodating one beer with a meal people, and refusing service to those who are schnockered (or even seem to be heading down the road to Pifflecatia) is perfectly logical.”

Interestingly, fast food giants like Burger King and McDonald’s are allowed to serve beer in Spain and other European countries. It’s a common practice in these regions, with each franchisee having the discretion to decide whether they offer beer or not.
