For those who are new to the 25-year-old story, the musical follows a young woman’s quest to finally find the father she’s never met. After discovering her mother’s old diary, she invites the three men mentioned in it to the small Greek island where she and her mother live, to walk her down the aisle at her wedding. Surely when she meets them, she’ll instinctively know which is her father … right?!
While the set of “Mamma Mia” during its Orlando, Fla. tour stop is rather minimalistic with its slate white buildings, I can’t deny that they look just like the real buildings on the Greek islands they represent. Paired with the flowing colorful costumes, the production is a fantastic period piece that brings you back to the early 2000s with its looks and to the 1970s through its music.
For fans of ABBA or newcomers alike, a majority of the tunes are major toe-tappers, and to those who can’t resist getting up and dancing along, don’t fret! Just after the bows, the whole cast returns at the end for reprises of the most popular songs and the audience is encouraged to get up on their feet, singing and partying along.
“Mamma Mia!” is performing now through Jan. 26, 2025 at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts in Orlando. The national tour is slated to continue through June. To find a performance near you, visit mammamiathetour.com
