The Apalachicola Margaret Key Public Library’s “World Tour” Art and Music Series brings an evening of Greek music and culture to the library this Wednesday, Jan. 28.
From 4 to 7:30 p.m. at 80 12th Street, in Apalachicola, Florida State music professor Panayotis “Paddy” League will combine music, photography and storytelling to celebrate Greek culture.
A musician, composer, and researcher who specializes in the traditional music and poetry of the Greek islands, northeast Brazil, and Ireland, he spent much of his childhood in Tarpon Springs, absorbing the songs and fiddle, lute, and bagpipe music of the Greek sponge divers.
An associate professor of ethnomusicology and director of FSU’s Center for Music of the Americas at FSU, League frequently performs in Greece and across the Greek diaspora and is working on a new book about the Greek folk music and dance revival in the US.
This event is free thanks to Porch Fest 2022 and PALS, the Friends of the Library. Light refreshments will be provided. Seating is limited.
