Greek singer Klavdia will represent Greece at the 69th Eurovision Song Contest in Basel, Switzerland, with her emotional ballad “Asteromata” (Starry Eyes), after winning the country’s first national final since 2017. The contest will take place from May 13 to 17.
Greece’s selection show, aired by state broadcaster ERT, was a three-hour event hosted by former Eurovision contestants Sakis Rouvas (2004, 2009) and Helena Paparizou, who won the contest for Greece in 2005. Twelve songs competed, narrowed down from 187 submissions by a five-member committee. The winner was determined by a combination of public voting, a national jury, and an international jury.
Klavdia, whose full name is Klavdia Papadopoulou, 22, won with 44 points, narrowly beating Evangelia’s “Vale” (42 points). BARBZ’s “Sirens” placed third with 30 points.
Klavdia first rose to prominence as a finalist on The Voice of Greece, where she was mentored by Paparizou. She later gained a following on TikTok, amassing over 200,000 followers, and released platinum-selling singles including “Haramata” and “Vasanizomai,” which earned her Best Newcomer at the Super Music Awards in Cyprus in 2023. Her song “Lonely Heart” topped the Shazam Discovery List.
Despite her young age, she has already performed alongside Dionysis Savvopoulos, shared the stage with Konstantinos Argyros at the Mad Video Music Awards, and collaborated with Giorgos Sampanis. She has also worked with DJs Playmen and Valeron, reinterpreting international dance hits from the 2000s.
Greece first participated in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1974, debuting with Marinella’s “Krassi, Thalassa Ke t’ Agori Mou” (Wine, Sea, and My Boyfriend) in Brighton.
