NEW YORK – Kehila Kedosha Janina Synagogue and Museum (KKJ), 280 Broome Street in New York City, hosts its next Torah & Taverna Night on Wednesday, January 21 at 7:30 PM. The monthly evening program features guest Jewish educators and musicians and offers an engaging evening of insights, live music, delicious Greek food, and more.
This month KKJ welcomes scholar and musician Rabbi Yosef Goldman who will lead a fascinating discussion on the history of sacred poetry for the holiday of Tu BiShevat. Focusing on ‘Az Yeranen’, a mystical piyut from 19th century Baghdad, participants will analyze the poem’s rich language and explore how singing and reconnecting with nature can help build community.
Afterwards enjoy live music from the dynamic Dolunay, who will offer a musical journey between New York and the Mediterranean. With a musical vision that is at once ethereal and grounded, Dolunay flirts with the soundscape of the ancient Ottomans, tracing its migration through Balkan villages, coaxing it across seas and oceans, and grafting it onto a New York backdrop.
Experience an evening of Jewish insights, savor delicious Greek food and drinks, and enjoy live music from across the Mediterranean.
