The International Women’s Group (IWG), in cooperation with the Embassy of the Hellenic Republic in Kuwait, hosted Greek Cultural Day on Sunday at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, celebrating the theme “Greece – Healthy Nutrition, Mindful Living, and the Power of Human Connection.”
Opening the event, IWG President Marika Kochlamazashvili, spouse of the Ambassador of Georgia, thanked attendees and praised the efforts of IWG Vice-President Theano Tsoumi Plotas and Greek Ambassador Ioannis Plotas for their role in organizing the celebration. She said IWG would continue hosting cultural events that promote diversity and meaningful engagement among members.
Ambassador Plotas welcomed guests and underscored the deep cultural ties between Greece and Kuwait, rooted in centuries of shared history, art, and tradition. He cited the influence of ancient Greek culture on Failaka Island during the era of Alexander the Great as a symbol of enduring friendship and respect between the two nations.
Highlighting Greece’s global cultural legacy, Plotas noted the continued use of Greek-origin words such as philosophy, symphony, and anatomy in modern languages. He commended the Greek team for their presentations of traditional attire, dances, and cuisine, which included authentic Greek dishes and desserts.
Guest speaker Eleni Dimitriadou, a psychotherapist and retreat specialist from Greece, shared insights on holistic wellness and mindful living, accompanied by a short film showcasing wellness retreats in Greece. The event concluded with traditional Greek music and dances, including the Zebekiko and Zorba, while guests enjoyed Greek yogurt offered by Go Yogurt Company and Myka Frozen Yogurt. Greek Cultural Day underscored the role of cultural exchange in strengthening bilateral ties and promoting mutual understanding between Greece and Kuwait.
