IHO NYX is all set to deliver a major tribute to Greek Rock as they take Sydney on a musical journey into the lesser-known but still beloved genre.
The band, accompanied by Carly Yelayiotis, will hold their ‘Greek Rock Tribute’ concert this coming Sunday evening (6 April) at The Factory Theatre in Marrickville.
The event, organised as part of the Greek Festival of Sydney, will feature hours of entertainment provided by the band, accompanied by Carly Yelayiotis, wherein they will cover a vast list of songs within the Greek Rock genre.
Andonis Petrandonakis, speaking on behalf of IHO NYX, explained the concert came from an initial proposal to the Festival wherein they wanted to experiment with their tribute shows.
“We normally like to do a theme to a singer, composer, or a band,” Petrandonakis told Neos Kosmos.
“We always try to do something innovative, something that hasn’t happened before, so we chose this time to cover a genre instead of a particular artist.”
He elaborated that the strength of the idea is that it leaves it open for huge variety.
“The theme is paying tribute to Greek Rock. It is not restricted to a specific period of time, it covers music from the 70s up until present day,” he said.
The band will cover numerous songs from bands like Trypes, Xylina Spathia, Ypogeia Revmata, Pyx Lax and artists like Papakonstantinou, Sidiropoulos, Yiokarinis and Tzimis Panousis.

Petrandonakis stressed that they can only cover so much music at the event, with their list carefully narrowed down to make it a great show that people will be entertained by.
“It is a very broad style of music. Two one-hour sets can only cover so much…We have tried to choose songs that most people will know and love,” he said.
The Greek Australian artist expressed the significance of the Festival supporting them in their experimental endeavour, saying:
“It is very pleasing, and it is very encouraging that they do have a broad view on the different styles proposed by artists and bands like us.”
He noted that the event will not feature songs that delve into any extremes associated with rock music, making it easy to enjoy for all.
“People should expect to see a very well-prepared and rehearsed show with quite a large group of very talented artists,” he said.
“It will be an evening filled with some very familiar songs and for the ones that people may not be so familiar with, I am sure we have chosen ones they will be impressed with and can sing along with as well.”
