Icelandic state broadcaster RÚV is airing the national final of Söngvakeppnin 2025 tonight. After two exciting semi-finals, six talented artists are vying for a spot to represent Iceland in Basel, Switzerland. The lucky winner will not only have the honor of carrying Iceland’s flag but also the responsibility of showcasing the country’s vibrant music scene on the international stage!
Let’s meet the 6 finalists!
1. VÆB – RÓA
VÆB is a duo full of energy and positive attitude. The band consists of twenty-nine-year-old brothers Matthías Davíð & Hálfdán Helgi Matthíasson , who aspire to bring fun to Söngvakeppnin . With a particular weakness for Eurovision, they declare themselves fans of “Run Away” (Moldova 2010), a song they consider unsurpassed! Their song in this year’s competition is inspired by a story of perseverance and courage, reminding us that we should not let others discourage us. With creativity, humor and a love for music, VÆB promise to give unique moments to the audience, aspiring to be the representatives of their country in Basel.
2. Stebbi JAK – Frelsið Mitt
Stefán Jakobsson is 45 years old, and stands out for his personality and love of music. Although outwardly unconventional, his favorite Euro-song is Lena ‘s Satellite (Germany 2010). Stebbi , as his friends call him, is characterized by dynamism, humor and authenticity. This year’s proposal for Iceland revolves around freedom, both in music and in life. Guided by his passion for creation, he plans to continue dreaming and realizing his artistic plans in the years to come.
3. Ágúst – Eins og þú
Ágúst Þór Brynjarsson is a twenty-five year old charismatic singer with a deep connection to music. He has a particular weakness for Eurovision since his childhood and has even been influenced musically by songs such as “Molitva” (Serbia 2007) and “This Is My Life” (Iceland 2008). His personal style combines honest lyrics and strong melodies while his song in Söngvakeppnin expresses the happiness of finding true love. The goal of his musical journey is to establish himself in his country’s music scene, reaching Eurovision.
4. Julí and Dísa – Eldur
Júlí Heiðar Halldórsson and Þórdís Björk Þorfinnsdóttir, known as Júlí and Dísa, are two 33-year-old artists with a shared passion for music and creation. Júlí describes himself as positive, ambitious and honest, while Dísa describes herself as humorous, humble and fair. They claim to be loyal friends, full of energy, while their song for Söngvakeppnin expresses the emotions that accompany the heart, which hurts from love, disappointment and rejection. In their plans for the next five years, Júlí wants to continue creating music and taking care of his family, while Dísa is more uncertain about the future, with her dreams full of surprises and twists.
5. Bjarni Arason – Aðeins lengur
Bjarni Arason is a 53-year-old Icelandic artist with a passion for music and creativity. He is known for his calm and thoughtful personality, which is expressed through his songs, which deal with themes such as love, nostalgia and sadness. His greatest love is music and, as he himself says, the most important thing for him is to be peaceful and leave a good impact on those around him. He loves his family and friends, while spending time with them to maintain close relationships. In his personal life, he enjoys Indian food and is afraid of heights!
6. Tinna – Þrá
Tinna Óðins is a 30-year-old Icelandic artist with a lively and sociable personality. She describes herself as fun, friendly and energetic, and is known for her spontaneity and positive spirit. In her personal life, she considers her family, especially her husband and two sons, to be the most important thing to her. Her song for Söngvakeppnin talks about the difficulties that arise when trying to understand our value in a relationship and the struggle to accept ourselves. In addition to music, Tinna has a passion for theater and is preparing to complete her acting studies in Copenhagen. In the next five years, Tinna hopes to combine music and acting, creating a career that combines her two passions.
HOSTS AND GUESTS!
Tonight’s final will take place at the RVK film studio in Gufunes and will be hosted by Benedikt Valsson, Guðrún Dís Emilsdóttir and Fannar Sveinsson. Benedikt Valsson and Fannar Sveinsson previously worked together as presenters of the contest in 2020, while Guðrún Dís Emilsdóttir already has a long history in the field of presenting, as she participated in the presenting team in 2016, and has linked her name to the description of last year’s Eurovision contest, in Malmö, Sweden. The three of them have so far handled the two semi-finals flawlessly, leaving the best impressions!
Traditionally, every year one or more Eurostars appear as interval acts in the Icelandic final! Tonight, viewers can expect a dynamic and electrifying spectacle, with two impressive performances by internationally recognized artists.
Käärijä, known for his high-energy performances and eccentric personality, won the hearts of Eurovision viewers with the uplifting “Cha Cha Cha”.
According to the information, Käärijä will not only perform his successful Eurovision song, but will also present a new collaboration with the Swedish electronic duo Hooja.The duo Hooja, known for their pulsating rhythms and innovative sound, is expected to bring a fresh and exciting dynamic to the stage. This highly anticipated collaboration promises to combine the best elements of both artists, creating an unforgettable show for the audience in Reykjavík.
LINE UP & LANGUAGE
According to the rules of Söngvakeppnin, in the semi-finals all songs had to be performed in Icelandic, so each contestant was obliged to submit the Icelandic version of their song. In the final, however, we will have to hear the songs in the language the creators wish to be in Eurovision, if they qualify.
The order of appearance of the artists, decided exclusively by the channel’s producers, is as follows (the language chosen by the creators is in parentheses):

VOTING RULES!
Söngvakeppnin voting will be held with changes this year, as the Super Final process, in which two artists qualified, has been abolished! This means that there will only be one televote from the audience throughout the evening. This vote will determine 50% of the result. On the other hand, an international jury, consisting of representatives from seven foreign countries, will constitute the other 50% of the result. In the end, the song with the highest, combined, score of the evening will be declared the winner of Songvakeppnin 2025!
BETTING ODDS!
The betting odds give VÆB a 39% chance of winning, making them the favorites to claim victory. Close behind them are Júlí and Dísa (28%), offering strong competition and dynamic potential. Tinna takes third place, though her chances of winning are notably lower than the top 2 (11%). In fourth and fifth place are Stebbi Jak (10%) and Bjarni Arason (7%), while Ágúst (5%) has the lowest chances of winning. This detailed picture presents an exciting scenario full of twists and close battles for the top spot!

The dominance of VÆB in the OGAE GREECE POLL is clear and overwhelming! The vast majority of our readers believe that “RÓA” will prevail tonight and that the duo will be heading to Basel with the Icelandic flag in tow. In second place is Tinna, while the duo Júlí og Dísa secures third place with notable support. The male contenders, Bjarni Arason, Ágúst, and Stebbi JAK, trail behind, but as true eurofans, we are always prepared for any surprises or new challenges that may arise.
