Last Sunday the Hellenic Writers’ Association of Australia celebrated the release of the 37th edition of the literary magazine O LOGOS and hosted the awards ceremony for the 2nd Literary Competition, under the theme “From Greece to the World.”
Held at the Greek Community of Melbourne and Victoria’s building, the event honoured authors and poets who weave Greek heritage into the global cultural fabric, highlighting how literature unites generations and strengthens Melbourne’s Greek community’s reach.
The special edition of O LOGOS commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Turkish invasion of Cyprus and pays tribute to Cypriot composer Stelios Tsiolas.
Dr Stavroula Nikoloudi presented the magazine while Dr Athanasios Spilias delivered a speech dedicated to Cyprus’s cultural legacy.
Notable guests included MP Kat Theophanous, Consul General of Greece in Melbourne Emmanouil Kakavelakis, and Deputy High Commissioner of Cyprus Nikolaos Varellas, among other prominent community leaders.
A message from Gianna Triantafylli, Director of The Voice of Greece, praised the association’s efforts in fostering Greek cultural identity and gave gratitude to all supporters.
Adding to the celebration, Evangelia Baxa and George Sevastakis performed a musical program, intertwining music with literature.
In recognition of their dedication, the association’s president Roma Siachou, presented awards to poet and former president Gerasimos Klonis and Soula Kolokytha for their contributions.
