The Greek teams did not travel well this week in the Euroleague, both suffering road losses that saw them drop in the standings.
Panathinaikos lost 96-89 at Armani Milano on Thursday, with the result being rather flattering for the Greeks.
In a game strongly reminiscent of the Greens’ loss at Red Star Belgrade earlier in the season, Panathinaikos surrendered after the first quarter, allowing the Italians to ease to victory as it was only captain Kostas Sloukas who kept fighting. The late damage limitation effort served only to reduce the margin of defeat, the second consecutive after the home loss to Valencia.
Sloukas made 19 points and Kendrick Nunn 17, as Panathinaikos slipped to a 9-6 record.
Olympiakos also disappointed its fans, losing 98-85 at Barcelona on Friday, for its sixth loss in 14 games.
The Catalans appeared at times to be irresistible in offense, with a 50% rate in triples and more than twice as many offensive rebounds (19, against nine for Olympiakos).
The team of coach Giorgos Bartzokas was competitive enough in the first half, after which it trailed 42-39, but in the third period Barcelona broke away to decide the game in its favor.
Sasha Vezenkov paced the Piraeus team with 22 points, followed by Tyler Dorsey with 19.
