The 19th Annual Greekfest Fayette is set to bring a celebration of vibrant culture, live Greek music and dancing, and authentic cuisine to Trilith on Saturday, August 16. Hosted by St. Christopher Hellenic Orthodox Church, the event, located at The Shipyard, will bring people together for fun-filled festivities.
“Originally, Peachtree City GreekFest began in 2006 in the Dixie Wing Hangar of the Commemorative Air Force. It has grown steadily since then,” said Bill Wiley, retired Delta Airlines captain.
After outgrowing the hangar, organizers moved the event to Trilith and rebranded the name to GreekFest Fayette.
“We hope to share the Greek concept of hospitality which is a core part of the Greek culture with kindness and generosity. Likewise, we hope to share other ethnicities that we embrace within our Pan-Orthodox Christian parish, such as Bulgarian, Romanian, and Russian,” said Julie Skouteris, vice president of the church’s parish council.
A main attraction at Greekfest is, of course, the food. Local favorite, Broadway Diner, will prepare some of the dinner menu items at the event.
“As the owner of Broadway Diner, feeding people delicious food is my passion- and I can personally vouch for the delectable, authentic Greek cuisine at Greekfest Fayette,” said Steve Theodorakis, owner of Broadway Diner. “I am happy to donate the dinner menu items, which are prepared by my restaurant for this special event. Come hungry and I promise you’ll leave happy.”
Among the must-try dishes are Greek potatoes, spanakopita (spinach and cheese pies), tiropita (cheese pies), and a variety of pastries including baklava, which are all lovingly hand-made by the parishioners.
Live music will be performed by Nick Trivelas & The Aegeans, a family band from Columbia, South Carolina that performs both modern and traditional Greek tunes. Greek dancers from the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Annunciation in Atlanta will also perform traditional Greek dancing for the guests, getting them up on their feet to join them in the dancing.
“GreekFest Fayette is a fun and engaging community event that also brings local businesses together to support meaningful causes,” said Tammy Soulakos, President Elect of the Rotary Club of Peachtree City and Keller Williams Realtor.
Proceeds from the event will support St. Christopher’s building fund and local charities like Beyond Performance, an organization that supports individuals, particularly veterans and first responders, physically and relationally through fitness and nutrition. The church’s philanthropic group, Philoptochos (“friends of the poor”), donates to local non-profits including Wellspring Living, Midwest Food Bank, Bloom, and various other charities.
“I’m proud to support GreekFest Fayette because it is a fantastic way to share our Greek culture with our local community,” said Dr. Evangelos Moraitis, Piedmont, Internal Medicine. “We blend Greek and Southern hospitality to create a night filled with incredible food, lively music, and dancing that makes you feel like you’ve been transported straight to Greece. The energy is uplifting and truly contagious,”
Last year’s event sold out, so don’t miss your chance to join hundreds of guests as we bring the sights, sounds and flavors of Greece right to Fayette County – no passport required!
