Greek Youth Pass Program Gains Momentum With Over 66,000 Applications


The Greek government’s Youth Pass initiative, offering a €150 digital debit card to young people aged 18 and 19, has seen overwhelming interest, with over 66,765 applications submitted to date.

The program, designed to support youth engagement in cultural, tourism, and transportation activities, is proving to be a significant boost for Greece’s younger generation.

The digital debit card can be used for purchases and services from businesses in sectors such as culture, tourism, and transportation. Eligible expenses include air travel, hotel stays, ferry tickets, e-books, movies, music, camping, cinema visits, museum entries, and theater performances, enabling young Greeks to explore and enjoy a wide range of experiences.

Who Qualifies for the Youth Pass?

Eligible applicants are tax residents of Greece who, as of December 31 of the previous year, are 18 or 19 years old and have not yet turned 20. Successful applicants receive a €150 digital debit card in the year of application and an additional €150 the following year if they continue to meet the criteria. The program’s 2025 budget, funded through the national budget, is set at €30 million.

To apply, young people must first register with the National Communication Registry. The application platform opened on April 1 and will remain available until May 15.

New Marketplace to Enhance Benefits

In a move to further support young Greeks, the Ministry of Digital Governance, in collaboration with the Ministries of National Economy and Finance and Interior, has announced the creation of a Promotional Actions Business Registry (Marketplace). Managed by the Information Society (KtP M.A.E.), this initiative will allow businesses in tourism, culture, and transportation to offer exclusive discounts and privileges to Youth Pass holders.

Businesses participating in the Marketplace will provide additional savings to cardholders, amplifying the financial support offered by the Youth Pass. The Marketplace is expected to launch in mid-May, following the close of the Youth Pass application period, with several businesses already expressing interest in joining.

Participating businesses must offer discounts to Youth Pass holders for the duration of the card’s validity, regardless of whether purchases are made using the card or other payment methods. This initiative aims to incentivise youth participation in social and cultural activities while fostering greater visibility and social impact for businesses.
