Greek spirit ignites at Oakleigh Glendi on weekend


Melbourne’s south-eastern suburb of Oakleigh known as a Greek urban colony, will get even more Greek character this weekend as the Oakleigh Glendi Festival ramps up. The areas will be an panegyric exaltation of Greek music, dance and flavours. Local Greek artists, musicians, and dancers will present a celebration packed with gastronomy, music, and entertainment.

Over the two-day festival, on Saturday, November 2, and Sunday, November 3, Warrawee Park in Oakleigh will come alive with a series of Greek-themed events.

On the first day, Greek singer Kostas Karafotis and the band “Kinisi” featuring Maria Marouli will bring the crowd to life with their live performances on the main stage. The schedule will also include traditional music and dance.

Visitors can enjoy entertainment, children’s activities, and cooking demonstrations, providing a rich experience full of flavors, fun, and endless joy for all ages.

On Sunday, November 3, renowned Australian Cypriot chef George Calombaris will take the cooking stage for a special demonstration that is expected to captivate the audience.

An outdoor market will offer visitors the chance to purchase crafts, candles, clothing, and more, as well as Greek and Mediterranean delicacies. Meanwhile, a Greek bar will serve alcoholic beverages.

For those with a sweet tooth, “Honey Dee Loukoumades” will host a competition with their signature sweet treats, inviting anyone who thinks they can devour all the chocolate-covered loukoumades to give it a try.

Attendees at Oakleigh Glendi will also have the chance to win two return tickets to Greece, as well as: a $1,000 Chadstone gift card, a dinner for four with Kostas Karafotis at Greca Street, a one-year subscription to Melbourne Café, a $500 dining voucher for the VIP “Good Room” at Hellenic Houses, a six-month membership at Plus Fitness Oakleigh, and a gift package from the Oakleigh Glendi Market booth.
