Greek International Food Market Introduces Greek-Inspired Dishes for the Thanksgiving Table

West Roxbury, MA — As Thanksgiving approaches, Greek International Food Market is inviting the community to explore how Mediterranean flavors can elevate the classic holiday table. From handmade spanakopita to small-farm Greek wines and creamy tzatziki paired with turkey, the family-owned West Roxbury specialty market is offering a fresh, flavorful take on the season — rooted deeply in Greek tradition, hospitality, and heritage.

For owner Katerina Iliades, Greek food at Thanksgiving isn’t a trend — it’s a natural extension of childhood memories and family culture.

“I grew up in the mountains on my grandfather’s farm,” says Iliades. “We picked olives by hand, baked with what we grew, collected eggs every morning, and cooked huge meals that brought everyone together. Thanksgiving carries the same spirit — abundance, gratitude, warmth, and food made with love. Greek dishes fit right into that celebration.”

Greek Flavors That Belong on the Thanksgiving Table

Tzatziki & Turkey: A Perfect Mediterranean Pairing

Cool, creamy tzatziki made with homemade strained Greek yogurt, cucumbers, garlic, and dill complements roasted turkey beautifully — adding freshness and brightness to a traditionally heavy meal.

Small-Farm Greek Wines

Hand-selected bottles from boutique Greek vineyards pair effortlessly with the holiday menu.

  • Assyrtiko brings crisp acidity to balance turkey and stuffing.
  • Xinomavro offers warm spice notes ideal for roasted vegetables.
  • Moschofilero adds floral aromas that elevate appetizers and mezze.

Each bottle is produced by family farms — mirroring the market’s own roots.

Signature Spanakopita

Flaky fillo layered with fresh spinach, Greek herbs, and imported feta makes an elegant appetizer or a side dish that feels right at home next to stuffing and cranberry sauce.

Greek Lemon Potatoes

Slow-roasted with extra virgin Greek olive oil, lemon, garlic, and oregano — these potatoes add brightness and Mediterranean flair to the Thanksgiving plate.

Pastitsio (Greek Baked Pasta)

A comforting crowd-pleaser for large family gatherings: cinnamon-kissed meat sauce, pasta, and silky béchamel. Ideal as a main dish or hearty side.

Olive & Cheese Platter

A Mediterranean mezze board featuring:

  • Hand-picked Kalamata and sun-cured olives
  • Homemade spreads
  • Greek cheeses
  • House-made pita chips

Perfect for grazing while the turkey finishes roasting.

Flaky Fillo Pumpkin Pie

A Greek twist on an American classic — pumpkin custard wrapped in crisp fillo with toasted walnuts, warm cinnamon, and Greek honey. Served warm with vanilla ice cream.

Catering & Pickup Options

All dishes are available for catering and in-store pickup.

To ensure small-batch, freshly prepared food, the market requests at least one week’s notice for catering orders.

Celebrating Heritage & Community

“Greek culture is built on filoxenia — the love of welcoming others,” Iliades adds. “Thanksgiving is one of the few days where every family in America celebrates that same spirit. Bringing Greek dishes to the table isn’t replacing tradition — it’s enriching it.”

Greek International Food Market welcomes the community to stop in, sample the olive bar, explore its Thanksgiving offerings, and bring a taste of Greece home for the holiday.
