The Greek Fire Service has located remnants of the missing cabin from the second engine of the freight train involved in the deadly Tempe collision in February 2023.
The discovery was made during an inspection at Koulouri in Larissa, where the wreckage is currently stored.
According to a February 27 report by the Hellenic Air and Rail Accident Investigation Authority (EODASAAM), part of the second engine of the freight train had been missing.
Sources informed Kathimerini that the Fire Service’s Arson Crimes Directorate (DAEE) found clear evidence of the cabin, including the driver’s seat and controls. A metallurgist has been called in to verify the findings.
The investigation at Koulouri will continue next week. The appellate judge overseeing the case has ordered an inspection of the missing section, while DAEE plans to extend their search to include the train’s dining car and first-class passenger section.
