Greek Fest Wraps At Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Brockton

BROCKTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Today is the last day for residents to indulge in everything from pastitsio, moussaka, and spanakopita to a variety of desserts dripping with honey at the Greek Food Festival in Brockton.

Thousands of people have participated in the annual four-day event so far. With no entrance fee and 60 different items on the menu, residents can come for the community but stay for the dishes.

“We have loukoumades, which are kind of like the fried dough with the honey syrup. Baklava, galaktoboureko, we have milfae, we have karidopita, which is a walnut cake,” one organizer said.

Paula says most people come here for the more tangible aspects, such as the food.

“Lamb shank, baked lamb, lamb souvlaki. So there’s no shortage of lamb here—stuffed grape leaves. We have moussaka that has an eggplant base. Chicken souvlaki,” Paula remarked.

The event features church tours, a Greek marketplace, and live music by Athenian Entertainment featuring Georgios Karatzas. Stefania loves the food and live music, but for her, it’s the dancing.

“I just love sharing that, putting the costumes on. You put the music on, and you’ll always see me dancing,” Stefania said.

Besides the food, music, and dancing, organizer Stefania said she appreciates her Greek heritage.

“Greeks are known for a word that cannot be defined into English called philothimo. Part of it is philo, which means friend. I kind of define it as a way of hospitality, showing our hospitality.”

Kerry from Brockton attends every year.

“Because the food is amazing. The desserts are amazing. And they’re amazing people.”
