Students from the Greek Community of Melbourne’s schools participated in a traditional dance workshop on Friday, May 2, led by Andreas Papadopoulos, a distinguished instructor from Athens’ Dora Stratou Theatre.
Papadopoulos, who is visiting Melbourne as a guest of the Kos Club of Melbourne and Victoria, conducted a two-hour workshop that drew students from all campuses of the Greek Community’s education system. The event aimed to deepen students’ understanding of Greek cultural traditions through hands-on dance instruction.
The second half of the session was opened to parents and educators, creating an intergenerational experience that extended the workshop into a community celebration. Attendees participated in live demonstrations of traditional dances, accompanied by music reflective of various regions of Greece.

Papadopoulos praised the students for their discipline and enthusiasm and acknowledged the role of local educators in cultural preservation. He praised Ms. Jenny Iliou for her work in promoting Greek dance and heritage in the diaspora.

The event is part of the Greek Community’s broader efforts to integrate cultural education into its curriculum and maintain strong ties to Hellenic traditions.
