Greek-Australian, LA-based multi-platinum singer, songwriter and dance music producer VASSY (real name Vasiliki “Vassy” Karagiorgos) just released her new BossAcoustics EP, in which she embarks on a new musical journey.
“My new Bossacoustics EP is a special one—it marks a new chapter in my artistic journey and a return to the music that first made me fall in love with singing. It’s been so refreshing to step away from the big dance EDM world for a moment and reconnect with the essential, stripped-down versions of my music,” VASSY tells Greek Reporter.
She says that before the EDM, her music was shaped by Bossa Nova, Latin Jazz, and timeless melodies. “Bossacoustics is my tribute to those beginnings. It’s a deeply personal, acoustic reimagining of some fan-favorite dance tracks and classic melodies—stripped-back, soulful, and honest. This one is for the day-one fans who’ve been asking for this side of me for years.”
VASSY says that growing up in Australia, her Greek roots played a big part in he love for music— “my mum would play Greek music all day and night.
“That passion for emotional, melodic music somehow translated into my deep connection with Latin rhythms. Ironically, this full-circle moment started in Sydney while I was studying architecture at university and performing at The Basement jazz club on open mic nights… one of my first times singing live in front of an audience—and ultimately being discovered.”
VASSY’s rise to the top
Back in 2012, VASSY was the first Australian artist to reach No. 1 on the Billboard Dance Club Songs chart with “We Are Young”. Today, she boasts six career leaders on that chart.
Another prize came in 2020, when VASSY became a member of APRA AMCOS’ The 1,000,000,000 List with “Bad,” her collaboration with Guetta and Showtek (Wouter and Sjoerd Janssen) passing one billion streams (it’s since topped two billion).
In a statement, she said about receiving the award, “It feels so good to be Back in Australia. Thank you, APRA AMCOS, for my Billions Award for Bad reaching the 2 BILLION stream milestone! It was so special to be around my Aussie community.”
The Billions List Award is emblematic of yet another exciting milestone in VASSY’s music career.
About a decade ago, VASSY relocated to Los Angeles to pursue her passion for music. She was born and raised in Darwin, the daughter of two Greek immigrants to Australia.
The decision to leave home paid off and VASSY can now point to several number-one hits and accolades over the course of her career, having become an international dance music icon.
