Greek Aussie teacher stars in Australian Idol audition

Adelaide-based high school teacher Simela Petridis produced a strong showing in her Australian Idol audition with her rendition of ‘I Don’t Want To Wait’ garnering an emotional response from the judges.

Petridis was among the people shown on Sunday’s episode with her singing the Paul Cole song widely known as the theme for the TV show ‘Dawson’s Creek’.

The Greek Australian’s performance received a big response from the judges, even bringing Jessica Mauboy to tears.

“I have never experienced an audition like that before. WOW!” said Amy Shark after her performance, with fellow judge Marcia Hines adding:

“All I can say is: ‘Yes sister girlfriend, yes you did beautiful’, that was beautiful.”

Mauboy, meanwhile, noted:

“[I was] so taken by your performance, and your story through that song. I could hear every kind of crack and moment and visualise your life. I have just become a mother, so I relate. Thank you for sharing that.”

Speaking for the judges, Hines gave Petridis the ‘Yes’ to confirm her place on the show with Mauboy and Shark both exchanging hugs with the high school arts teacher.
