The talented Greek-American pop singer-songwriter Maria Ellis has revealed all the details upon her newest breakthrough EP, ‘Ultrabaddie’.
Released on May 23, the EP features a selection of eight songs titled ‘Royalty’, ‘Conceited’, ‘Gone’, ‘Beauty Is A Weapon’, ‘The Movies’, ‘Bedtime Stories’, ‘Like You Loved Me’, and ‘God Complex’.
In an interview as featured on Digitaljournal.com, Maria revealed how she selected each song for her new album.
“When I came up with the concept of the EP, I just wanted to make a body of work that was reflective of where I was at with my confidence and my independence,” she said. I felt like once I knew the type of music I wanted to make, most of the songs came naturally after that.”
With an aim to channel feminine energy, while feeling strong and confident in her music, Maria stated how popular female artists such as Britney Spears, Beyonce, Miley Cyrus, and Ariana Grande influenced her sound.
When asked about her personal favorite track on the EP, Maria said “they are all of my favorite songs because I worked on all of these so closely, from writing to producing, but my favorite right now is definitely God Complex… I produced that with my friend Jade Che and I love how strong it makes me feel. It’s a very powerful song and also features a little of my electric guitar playing at the end too,” she added.
Maria said her music is inspired by her life.
“Whether it’s the best night of my life or a gut-wrenching goodbye, I’m not scared to write about things going on personally for me,” she said.
“Writing has always been the most cathartic way of getting my emotions out.”
When asked about which of her eight new hits were most personal to her, the Greek-American artist said she’d have to go with ‘Like You Loved Me’, describing it as a song that is “extremely personal and vulnerable” as a song “full of grief”.
“I loved including it right before God Complex because it’s that moment of weakness before you get your strength back again,” Maria said.
Maria added that she hopes listeners of her album will feel empowered.
“I created this as a release for myself to feel sexy and confident. I just want to give that feeling that all of my favorite female artists have given me,” she explained.
“I hope you know how important you are and sometimes we just need that little pop R&B song with a good beat to remind us.”
Maria’s Ultrabaddie EP is available to stream now on Spotify, Apple Music, Itunes, Amazon Music and more.
