The Greek Air Traffic Controllers Association (GATCA) has announced it will join the 24-hour strike on Thursday, August 28, organized by the Civil Servants’ Confederation (ADEDY).
The strike is in protest of a draft law that, according to unions, would criminalize trade union, social, and political action; classify them as common crimes; abolish the right to appeal; remove employee representatives and judges from disciplinary councils; and introduce heavy fines.
During the strike, air traffic controllers will stage a four-hour work stoppage from 9:30am to 1:30pm. At this time, only essential flights will be allowed to operate, including:
– International flights crossing the Athens FIR.
– Flights carrying heads of state or prime ministers.
– Hellenic Air Force missions and scheduled exercises.
– Aircraft in emergency situations.
– Hospital flights.
– Humanitarian aid flights.
– Search and rescue operations.
Passengers are advised to contact their airline or travel agent for the latest information on possible schedule changes or cancellations.
