Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein and his Greek counterpart, Giorgos Gerapetritis, announced on Thursday that direct flights between Iraq and Greece will start in December.
During a joint press conference in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, Gerapetritis said that Greece aims to develop collaboration with Iraq in several areas and is committed to a long-term partnership, according to the state-run news agency (INA).
This is the first visit by the Greek foreign minister to Iraq; however, the two ministers held several meetings in different countries.
Previous meetings addressed relations between Iraq and Greece and the ancient civilizations that connect the two countries, according to Hussein.
Hussein said that the launch of direct flights between the two countries is an important step toward strengthening commercial relations.
The two sides addressed cooperation in agriculture, medical supplies, and pharmaceuticals, as well as the involvement of Greek enterprises in these sectors.
The two ministers also talked about collaboration between Iraqi and Greek universities to promote cultural connections.
