Greece: Thessaly Farmers Remain at the Blockade of Nikaia

LARISA, Greece – The farmers of Thessaly remain at the blockade of Nikaia on Monday, December 15, continuing their protests.

The Athens-Thessaloniki national highway remains closed near Nikaia, with agricultural machinery and tractors lined up on the road. Vehicle traffic is being diverted via detours, while police forces are in the area.

The farmers’ representatives pointed out that dialogue with the government can only take place on the specific demands that have been submitted and not in a general context.

At the same time, the farmers of Thessaly have planned a mobilization in the central square of Larissa, on the occasion of the trial of farmers who are being prosecuted for the incidents that took place in the first days of the blockades, expressing their support for their colleagues and denouncing the legal proceedings.

Also, the farmers of the Nikaia blockade will participate in the strike rally of the Larissa Labour Center, in the central square.

At the nationwide meeting of the blockades, which was attended by representatives of farmers from all over the country, it was decided to escalate the mobilizations if the farmers’ demands are not met by the government.
