As part of a cherished summer tradition, the Greek Ministry of Culture will once again host events under the August full moon, offering free access to select archaeological sites on Saturday, August 9. The initiative is coordinated by the General Directorate of Antiquities and Cultural Heritage.
A total of 114 archaeological sites, historic landmarks, museums, and monuments across the country will welcome the public by moonlight. Of these, 71 will host cultural events, while 44 will remain open to visitors for nighttime strolls and moonlit exploration — all free of charge.
This year’s program extends from August 8 to 13 and features an array of events, including theatrical performances, music and dance shows, stargazing sessions, myth-telling, and guided tours.
The activities are organized by departments of the General Directorate of Antiquities and Cultural Heritage, as well as the Directorate of Restoration, Museums, and Technical Works, with support from local authorities and cultural associations.
The August full moon nights have become a unique opportunity for residents and tourists alike to experience Greece’s rich heritage in a magical setting — illuminated by one of the summer’s brightest celestial moments.
