Today, an exclusive interview with Klavdia, Greece’s representative at Eurovision, was uploaded on wiwibloggs.
In the 33-minute interview, Klavdia shared for the first time many interesting details, which make her intentions “visible” to a larger Eurofan audience, as it is an interview in English. The interview was conducted by William Lee Adams of wiwibloggs and he did not fail to ask questions that many fans of the competition may have had. In fact, the presenter commented that dozens of fans are trying to sing Asteromata in Greek and are looking for the meaning of the lyrics.
What will we see in Basel from Klavdia?
In the great debate that has opened up among Eurofans about how much the stage appearance of the Asteromata entry will differ, Klavdia confirmed that we will see something completely different. “Everything you saw at the National Final has changed. From the clothes and the staging to the lights and the visuals, everything is different. Wait and see. We want to surprise you.”
What has not changed, of course, is the artistic director. This will be none other than Fokas Evangelinos , the man who has been identified with Greek participations from 2003 until today, but also with successful entries from other countries. In response to William’s question, Klavdia replied , “We couldn’t think of anyone else than Fokas Evangelinos. His experience is very useful for us. He has taken on many participations, from Elena Paparizou – who is something like my musical mother – to artists from other countries.”
Regarding her performance in the National Final and the question of whether she ever “misses a note”, the singer replied that of course she does sometimes. However, she is hard on herself and acknowledges that even in the Final she made some vocal mistakes, while she will work intensively until Basel to hit perfect. She also wants to convey emotions to the audience with her voice.
The video music of Asteromata
In the music video we will see three locations mainly: Greek countryside, Athens and Sounio. It is very important for her and the team behind Asteromata to highlight the Greek element and tradition that the place brings.
Regarding the “theme” of the song, Klavdia responded that it is a song open to the experiences of every person and it is legitimate for everyone to perceive it with their own eyes. For her, it brings the experience of her family’s foreignness, without however narrowly defining it.
Is Klavdia afraid of competition?
Wiliam mentioned that in the Second Semi-Final there are more “adult/sensual” entries competing such as Australia, Finland and Malta, while Asteromata is something different. Klavdia commented that it would be boring if all the songs belonged to one genre/style of song and that the variety makes it more interesting. The journalist took it a step further, commenting that Asteromata differentiates itself as a more unique and original piece.
Somewhere there, Jamala also mentioned the management of her voice when she sang 1944 -the winning song of 2016-. Klavdia wants to give her best, and she will be a perfectionist towards this. Finally, she mentioned Elena Paparizou as her role model, from her childhood and how she dreams of winning Eurovision too. She also mentioned Loreen as a very strong performer who has gone through the competition.
