Greece and South Korea are exploring ways to strengthen tourism ties, with a key focus on launching direct flights and signing a Memorandum of Cooperation to enhance travel and trade between the two countries.
During a meeting in Athens on Tuesday, Greek Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni and South Korean Ambassador to Greece Ju-seong Lim discussed opportunities to promote lesser-known Greek destinations to South Korean travelers and expand bilateral tourism initiatives.
Enhancing connectivity and tourism exchanges
Both officials highlighted the importance of establishing direct air links to facilitate increased visitor flows and boost economic exchanges. The ambassador invited Kefalogianni to Seoul in May for the Seoul International Travel Fair (SITF), presenting an opportunity to further showcase Greece’s tourism offerings to the South Korean market.

Ambassador Lim highlighted the strong ties between Greece and South Korea, particularly in the shipping sector, and noted Greece’s rising appeal among South Korean travelers. He pointed out that many South Koreans prefer traveling during the off-peak seasons, making Greece a strategic destination for year-round tourism.
Additionally, he mentioned that Greek locations have gained popularity in South Korea through television programs featuring iconic destinations.
Memorandum of Cooperation in the pipeline
As part of their discussions, Kefalogianni and Lim agreed on formalizing tourism cooperation through a Memorandum of Cooperation, which is expected to be signed in the near future. The agreement aims to facilitate joint initiatives, promotional efforts, and improved travel accessibility between the two nations.
