
The government has allocated €37.3 millon in betting tax revenue to professional sports leagues so far this year, the deputy sports minister said in a social media post.
Yiannis Vroutsis said that €24.65 million went to Super League soccer clubs, €3.46 million to Super League 2 clubs, €5.05 million to Basket League teams and €2.99 million to Volley League teams.
“Since 2022, the government … established a stable and transparent annual funding mechanism, using resources from the taxation of betting winnings,” the minister said.
“For 2026, this support increased by 21.21% – to a total of €80 million from €66 million in previous years – further strengthening the country’s sports,” he added.
