ZOOM – Hellenic American Women’s Council (HAWC) presents ‘Celebrating Mimis Plessas – 100 Years of Music for Greece with Efi Asvesti’ Saturday, August 30, 10 AM Central on Zoom. Asvesti, of MyGreekTeacher.com will share Plessas’ life (1924-2024), his music, and why his songs are woven into the fabric of Greek culture. Born in Athens, Plessas was a piano prodigy. Amazingly, while earning a PhD in chemistry at Cornell University, he also built an international reputation as a brilliant pianist. Over a 70-year career he wrote music for over 100 films, 70 plays, and countless TV and radio shows – blending Greek tradition with jazz and classical in a style all his own.
