Glykeria, the iconic singer of Greek music, has arrived in Tirana for the concert that will light up the Amphitheater near Tirana Lake tonight. Accompanied by a band of 14 musicians led by Albanian composer and musician Dasho Kurti, who is also the concert master of Janis Parios and Jorgo Dallaras, the internationally renowned artist was welcomed by the Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, who presented Glykeria with the symbol of the Clock Tower as a souvenir from the Albanian capital.
“I am very happy that Glykeria and her whole band are with us today in Tirana. I say that music unites peoples and just as we have Greek songs and Albanian songs that will delight us today at the Amphitheater, during the week there will be Ermal Meta with an Italian-Albanian band. Therefore, I believe that when neighbors communicate with a language that everyone understands, such as the language of music, the language of beauty, love and song, we guarantee good neighborliness. It is very important that prime ministers are friends, that mayors are friends, but when people are the ones who exchange numbers every day, then our neighborliness is also guaranteed,” said Veliaj.
The singer, one of the most successful in the history of Greek folk song, has expressed her gratitude for the hospitality shown to her by Tirana, a city that, as she said, has amazed her.
“The city is wonderful! Thank you for giving me the opportunity to visit it! We have been here since yesterday and the hospitality we have received has been very warm. We had dinner at a restaurant where people came and greeted us. We had the opportunity to visit the city, which has changed a lot and is wonderful. We thank the mayor very much who welcomed us in his office for all the hospitality, because we found a young man, very dynamic and keen to deal with all the current issues of the city,” said the Greek singer, among other things.
Glykeria’s concert tonight promises a program full of surprises, where like never before in a Greek music concert, Albanian will be sung, but mixed Albanian and Greek melodies will also be played.
