NBA star Giannis Antetokounmpo gave internet personality IShowSpeed a heartfelt tour of Athens, Greece, during a rare, unfiltered livestream that combined humor, culture, and candid conversations about life, fame, and legacy.
The stream, part of Speed’s European tour, drew global attention as the two visited some of the city’s most iconic sites, including the historic Acropolis and Giannis’ childhood neighborhood of Sepolia. For Antetokounmpo, it was a return to his roots. For Speed, it was a glimpse into the early life of one of basketball’s biggest names.
The tour begins with a dunk in an outdoor court
The tour began at the outdoor court where Antetokounmpo made his first dunk at age 14. The court, now adorned with a mural in his honor, was where he and his brothers trained for hours each day.
Antetokounmpo challenged Speed—known more for his energy than his vertical leap—to dunk on the same hoop. To his surprise, Speed pulled it off with just enough lift to score. “Let’s go!” Speed shouted. “I got my first dunk where Giannis got his first dunk at!”

A traditional Greek meal and deeper conversations
After the court visit, Antetokounmpo treated Speed to a rooftop dinner in central Athens. They shared a traditional Greek meal, including gyros, Greek salad, baklava, and lemon soda, while the conversation turned more personal.

Antetokounmpo reflected on his upbringing, crediting his late father with keeping the family grounded. “My father told me to never showcase wealth,” he said.
He also opened up about meeting his wife during the NBA Summer League when he was 21, admitting he was “shy” at the time. Now married with four children, Antetokounmpo said his family has become the foundation of his life and career.
Speculation builds over NBA’s future
The stream also touched on Antetokounmpo’s future in the NBA. Speed asked whether the star forward would consider joining the New York Knicks, a move many fans have pushed for. “A lot of people try to convince me to go and play there and stuff,” he said. When asked if he plans to stay in Milwaukee, he replied, “Probably, we’ll see… I love Milwaukee.”

Crowds gather as they walk near the Acropolis
As the stream continued, the two walked through the Plaka district, a historic neighborhood filled with ancient ruins and traditional shops. They attempted to enter the Acropolis Museum, but streaming restrictions prevented filming inside.
They continued near the entrance to the Acropolis and Parthenon, but growing crowds forced them to change course. Fans swarmed the area, chanting Speed’s name, snapping photos, and following closely through the streets. Security advised them to switch to a phone camera to reduce attention.
A surprise request to meet Michael Jordan
Later in the stream, Speed asked if Antetokounmpo could arrange a meeting with basketball legend Michael Jordan. Antetokounmpo called a Nike contact live on stream, requesting that Speed be allowed to join an upcoming event. The answer remained uncertain, but Speed was visibly emotional at the possibility.
The night ended with smiles, laughter, and a group photo. Speed beamed with excitement, calling the experience unforgettable, while Antetokounmpo flashed a peace sign and thanked fans for joining them on the streets of Athens.
