The problem with beloved Greek church festivals is that they usually only happen once a year and make Greek food lovers hunt for places to take care of their yearnings wherever they can find it: like Opa Greek Restaurant in Hamilton Township, N.J.
Owner-chef George Vasilarakis, a Greek native with more than 40 years in the business, opened his first restaurant in 1989, Giorgio’s Gyros and Souvlaki, following a tried-and-true path for Greeks in America.
“We want to give the surrounding area a restaurant that’s reliable,” he told Community News. “We want to be the best. We want to serve the customers as fast as possible, we want to provide them great food at a reasonable price,” he also said.
So he offers what you can find at those festivals, everything from dolmades to avgolemeno, spanakopita, moussaka, and the famed horiatiki Greek salad. I know everyone in Hamilton loves the Greek Festival, so when we don’t have the festival, I’ll bring the festival to you,” he said. Opa!
